Wedding Show Tips

It’s wedding show season! So with so many good shows this weekend I wanted to post some tips on what to do,what to bring and what to wear.

Create a Wedding E-mail Address
If you haven’t created a special wedding e-mail address I suggest doing that as well through yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc. This will help your current e-mail from being bombarded with e-mails from vendors and spam.

Make wedding labels.
For those brides that are attending numerous wedding shows this month and next, print labels with this information on it instead of filling out a ton of different forms.
Brides Name:
Grooms Name:
Phone Number:
e-mail address:
Mailing Address:
Date of Wedding or month of wedding:

All vendors will be asking for your information for drawing, give-a-ways and to contact you. Save yourself some time by creating labels so you can just stick them on their forms. It’s important to register for everything. You never know, you maybe a winner!

Dress Comfy
Most bridal shows have no place to sit down besides the fashion show, so make sure to wear comfy shoes and loose clothing. UGG’s might start off comfortable, but with no arch support your feet will be killing you shortly. Wear tennis shoes.

Travel in pairs
I normally suggest that a bridal show is a great place to make mom feel really special. If it’s just the two of you, you can get a lot more done and move quickly. She will also help you remember who you have talked to and what vendors you like at the end of the day. Traveling with two large of a wedding party will slow you down. Most booths are only 10ft by 10ft so having 5 bridesmaids with you and your mom while your trying to make a business deal and find our more info about a vendor can be over whelming sometimes. It’s also a great way to get the groom involved to. You have to put it in time sense for him. Its a simple equation you say to the groom to get him to go: “I can give you a list of vendors that I need you to help me call, get prices, research on line and spend hours interviewing or you can spend 3 hours with me today and get it all done.” Most of the time they would rather go to the show! A maid of honor who has already been married and has done the wedding shows before is also a good person take with you.

Arrive early and attend a fashion show
I suggest being there when the doors open. Everything is still fresh including the vendors, who are more willing to talk to you longer because they haven’t said the same thing 100 times in a row and haven’t been on their feet standing for 3 or more hours. Tasting samples and cake samples are also their freshest. Attend the first fashion show to give your feet a break. Even if you already bought your dress it’s fun to watch and its the only time you will get to sit down. There are normally two fashion shows. During the second fashion show is the best time to go and talk to the vendors that you really liked. Most of the booth areas clear out when a fashion show is taking place. This is when you will get the best face time with the vendor and they can tell you more about their specials and product.

Ask a friend about what show
Because there are so many show in this area I suggest asking a friend who has been married what show she liked to narrow down your search. Here are a few show that I recommend:
The Premier Wedding Show
Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa
Sunday Jan 9th 2011
11:00am to 4:00pm
$10 entry fee

Modern Luxury Bridal Show
Ritz Carlton San Francisco

$20 entry fee

Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa
Bridal Open House

And the last tip for bridal shows is to have fun! Who ever you take with you take them out for drinks, dinner or just to celebrate being engaged. Because no matter how much fun you had being a bride at that show they were just their to support you, so treat them to something nice.

Happy Planning!
